The Atheism Tapes: Richard Dawkins Interviewed By Jonathan Miller

An interview from the time of the beginning of the Iraq war.  He talks about the connection between religion and people’s tendency to personify evil and personify good and religion and whether such religious thinking is partly to blame for Bush’s and Blair’s judgments.  Dawkins discusses how at 9 the plurality of religions initially led him to doubts but that until 16, the argument from design held his faith together.  Discovering Darwin taught him not only a great explanation for the complexity of life but helped him realize how bad a divine designer explanation is because the divine designer is subject to problems of infinite regression, whereas evolution requires no such problem of regression in its explanation of the complexity of life.  He also talks about his devout teen years and having visions of angels, but also the liberation of abandoning religious belief.

It’s an interesting video for exploring the personal thought process which led him to his atheism.
