Dancing With the Stars Season 9 returned tonight with the biggest Star cast ever. That’s right 16 couples will participate! Three night Premiere!! The men take the floor tonight and tomorrow the ladies will show their stuff! Wednesday two couples are going home.
The show opened up with the Male Pros dancing a lively number to the ‘Boys are Back in Town’. All the men have this bravado about themselves tonight, they are really feeling it! And obviously excited to be back. I can’t lie, I’m excited as hell too!
Our Season 9 stars: Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff, Chuck Lidell and Anna Trebunskaya , Mark Damascas and Lacey Schwimmer, Ashley Hamilton and Edyta Sliwinska, Donny Osmond kym Johnson, Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower, Michael Irvin and Anna Demidova, Tom Delay and Cheryl Burke, Debi Mazar and Maksim Chmerkovsity, Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas, Mya and Dmitry Chaplin, Kathy Ireland and Tony Dovolani, Natalie Coughlin and Alec Mazo , Macy Gray and Jonathon Roberts, Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough, Kelly Osbourne and Louis van amstel.
For the first time our Stars will perform a Latin and Ballroom dance for the first week. They are definitely upping the ante!
Aaron Carter is the Teen Hearthrob of the season. In pratice, he really struggled with getting his hips to move correctly for the Cha Cha Cha. During their practice, Aaron was funny to watch as he struggled with Karina’s hotness; he was totally distracted. But it all came together when they performed. I actually enjoyed their unconventional Cha, Cha, Cha. And for the first week, I thought that he did pretty well, he stumbled a little, but I thought that they had good chemistry (probably because he is in heat). Len thought for the 1st dance, he did well and he showed great potential. Bruno thought he was edgy and very sharp, but that he has to learn to control himself. Carrie Ann thought that he has a lot of potential, he stumbled a little but she thought it was great. Carrie Ann-7, len-8, bruno-22 I’m impressed and for the first week, this is like a 10 all around.

Chuck Lidell is an Ultimate Fighting Champion. In practice intially, Chuck was a little scary for Anna with all of his fighting power. She is going to have to learn how to tone some of that down. They will dance the foxtrot and the biggest objective is for him to learn to smile, so that he doesn’t scare everyone. Throughout the practice, Anna is looking at him with the side-eye. They danced to ‘That is my life’. You can tell that he is completely out of his comfort zone, he is stiff and off, but you can tell that he is really trying. If he makes it through to next week, I think that he will have to really learn how to relax and have fun, because he looks terrified! Bruno acklowedged that Chuck was great with audience, but the pair will have to improve alot, because they struggled in every area of the dance. Carrie Ann thought he was smooth and charming although he needs to work on his footwork. Len welcomed his dance much better than he thought that he would and urged him to get in touch with his feminine side ( that is not happening any time soon). Carrie Ann-6, Len-5, bruno-5= 16

Mark Dacascos is the host of the ’Iron Chef’. Ok I love this show, so I am really hoping that he does well. Mark was very happy to get Lacey as a partner and kept calling her Master! He is very easy to learn apparently since he is a Martial Artist. His precision and detail are going to go a long way. He is going to rock! They danced the Cha, cha, cha the old disco favorite ’Rock the boat’. He’s dancing like it’s week 5. He has great movement and he is so damn light on his feet it is ridiculous. Carrie Ann loved the Asian theme and thinks that he has alot of potential, but his arms are a little whoo-too(wth). Len doesn’t like gimmicks and he didn’t appreciate the Asian theme of the dance. He doesn’t want to see it (Asian themes) in every dance & urges him to back off the kung fu. Bruno thought it was part of a treat and encouraged him to keep things tight and the talent is there. Carrie Ann-7, len-7, bruno-7. I think he was robbed!

Ashley Hamilton (whose Tan papa George is in the house) is an Actor and Comedian. Cute- Ashley got the same dance partner as his Dad from a few seasons ago. Ashley really struggled and kind of went for the sympathy card letting us know about all of the accidents he has been in that still impacts him. Just Dance! They danced the Fox Trot. Ashley is lucky that Edytha is so graceful , because she makes him look a little better than he really does on the dance floor. He will have to work on loosening up….he is stiff as a board. But he is a cutie, so we will give him a pass. Len thought his footwork was correct, but it had a roughness about it. Bruno thought he is a good looking like his dad, but he can’t sell the dance like his Pop. Carrie Ann thought he needs to define himself and there was nothing about his dance that set him apart. Carrie Ann-5, Len-6, Bruno-4=15

Donny Osmond is the singing Legend. They will be doing the Fox Trot. Donny’s biggest challenge is that he gets embarrased with intimate holds (FYI Dony, you entered the wrong contest). They danced to ‘All the Jazz’. This is perfect for him. He is such a n entertainer. I think Donny will do really well this season as he definitely has a built in audience. He sold the dance. They might ask for more smiles, but he was good…Oh wait…what is Jermaine Jackson doing there? ( I know he will be on next year). Bruno loved it, but advised Donny to work on his form more. Carrie Ann agreed. He is a fan favorite, but they need to see the dance. Len thought it was too theatrical although he was very good. The audience gave him a standing O, I think he will be okay! Carrie Ann-7, Len-6, Bruno-7= 20

Louis Vito is the Olympic bound Snowboarder. Louis says that he has never danced before and looking at this rehearsal, I believe him. Chelsie proved to have some pretty strange training techniques, but Louis was a good sport and he responded well. They danced the Fox Trot. Although, Louis says that he doesn’t dance, I thought he did a decent job. Carrie Ann said she was surprised that he respected the dance and that his footwork was good. Len thought that his hair was inappropriate (too long and he probably wants him to cut it), but he thought that his technique was good and cautioned him to hold his posture. Even still, he enjoyed the dance very much. Bruno thought he was a cute dancing poppet that lacked fluidity. Is there a compliment in there somewhere? Carrie Ann-6, Len-7 and Bruno-6

Michael Irvin is a 3 time NFL Superbowl Champion. Michael says that he is doing this show to beat Jerry Rice. They are doing the Cha Cha Cha. Michael is aiming to beat Jerry’s cha, cha score with at least one point higher - 22. Dancing to ‘I feel Good’ (oh no, is this a gimmick? We know that Len hates Gimmicks). I think that Anna is doing too much of the dance and I would have liked to see Michael do more dance and less show. However, he did enjoy it and he had a good time. (wait, was that sexy Gilles in the audience…..yea!). Len didn’t think it was a great first dance. He would like to see more content. Bruno loved his presence and he is a crowd pleaser, but the footwork and content was poor. Carrie Ann thought he beat Jerry Rice’s charisma and advised Anna to fill it with more dance moves. CA- 5, len-4, bruno-4= 14. This falls on Anna’s shoulders, she is new and she will have to up her choreaography to stick around for next season.

Tom delay is the Former Majority Leader. No disrespect, but I’m going to take a guess and predict that Tom will be the weak link tonight. He struggled to get the rhythm, but he had a good attitude and that is important. They danced to ‘Wild Thing’. You could definitely tell that he hadn’t danced before, but he looked like he had a great time, so gotta give him some props, but can Cheryl please not have him gyrate his hips like that ever again? Bruno- said that he was crazier than Sarah Palin. The little cha cha in there wasn’t as bad as the rest of the dance…. CA thought it was surreal. (that’s not a compliment), but he is light on his feet with a natural grace. Len thought parts were tragic and parts were magic. Carrie Ann-6, Len-5, Bruno- 5= 16

The 8 couples did a relay dance to earn some extra points. This is how it is done. They take the 8 couples and split them into 2 groups of four. the judges will compare them and rank them from 10 for the best dancer to 4 for the worst. They will dance together, but be judged individually. Their first dance is the Salsa Rio Each couple will have 30 seconds to shine. Ashley, Chuck , Donny and Louie will participate in this portion. The partners worked hard to pull out their tricks. Ashley didn’t get this one. He didn’t have enough hip action and still pretty stiff. Chuck was also pretty stiff and the focus was more on Anna. He was better though. Donny definitely has the best form. He is going for the 10 score. And sorry Len….I don’t think he can tone down the performer in him. Louie started with an energetic series of sommersault to keep us from focusing on the rest of his dance. Carrie Ann thought that Donny smoked the competition while Chuck was ambitious. Len said Donny had the rhythm. Bruno gave the nod to Donny as well. He also gave praise to Chuck and encouraged Ashley to work on his rhythm (as did Len).
Scores: Ashley- 4, Chuck-6, Louie- 8, Donny-10

Viennese Waltz will be performed by Aaron, Mark, Tom and Michael. All of the dancers struggles with this one and the pros kept looking nervously at t heir partners. But everyone has a really good sense of humor so it is all fun. Aaron started it off. I thik that Aaron did far beeter than I thought he would do. Mark struggled with the formality of the dance with poor footwork. Tom did much better than I thought he would. Again, Anna’s dance showed off her moves and didn’t showcase her partner enough. Len thought that Tom was skippy while he thought Mark had control. Bruno- loved Arron’s rotation and the way that he worked the floor. He also compliment Marks great lines and thought that Michael was better in this dance. Carrie Anne thought that Anna and Michael was improved and Aaron had very nice lines, Michael needs to breathe while he dances and she believes he can be great. And Tom was elegant.
Scores: Tom- 4, Michael- 6, Mark- 8, Aaron- 10. I concur
As forementioned….Tom or Louie are the Weak links
