Con La Musica Alla Radio

Today, I got what I’ve been expecting since September. Finally the LauraLive World Tour 2009 came to my hands, and like I had known since I wanted it, it didn’t dissapoint me. I have to say the beautiful woman who I am comitted with, spent an incredible evening watching this top-rated concert, and it just became an awesome day. We sang, we danced, we even cried… that’s what this amazing music of this Italian woman makes us feel. And sincerely, if I could thank her for what she has brought to my girl and me, I would.

The single I’m talking about in this entry, was released on September 25th, and it just makes me smile, makes me feel so thankful for what I’ve got in my life, that an amazing feeling arrives and fills my body everytime I hear or sing this song. It has something unique, that other Laura’s songs don’t have, I don’t know if it’s the music, the lyrics… who knows! (well, probably Laura knows). What I do know, is that I just want to dance with my barefeet with the music on the radio! That’s all I need in this life! Come you can get closer now, and allow me to be more, be your mouth inside my own, would never let you go!!!

Marks and Spencer girl's lover in "Love potion" scandal

M&S eye candy Noemie Lenoir’s partner has been arrested over allegations that he lured young models into being videod having orgies.

Swiss millionaire Carl Hirschmann, 29, is said to have given the girls vodka-based cocktails called “Love Potion” at his club Saint Germain in central Zurich.

A detective investigating the case told the Mirror: “It was where we believe most of these sex tapes were made. Like many nightclub scenarios Hirschmann let beautiful girls into his club for free.”

Hirschmann is also accused of blackmailing the models, asking them for cash in return for him not posting the videos on the internet.

He has been released on bail, since his arrest last month.

Meanwhile, his 30 year old lover, who currently features in the new christmas M&S advert posing in her underwear is reported to be “in a living hell.”

Talking from Noemie’s home town of Paris a friend said: “Knowing that he’s involved with the police and investigating judges in such a serious case is tearing her apart.

“The truth is that, despite all of the accusations being levelled against him Noemie is besotted with him. What’s worse is that many of the allegations are coming from beautiful young women just like her. It’s almost too much to bear.”

Another friend added: “Rather than keeping away from Hirschmann, she wants to do everything she can to clear his name.”

At least five women have testified against him, with one telling police she was “astonished” that an apparently loyal friend could have “acted in such a frightening way.”

When approached by the Mirror, Noemie declined to comment.

Um espectador do show da Reworked Tour em Londres do dia 24 resolveu propor a namorada em casamento e pediu a ajuda de Gary para fazê-lo.

Ele deu uma grito da platéia e Gary foi até onde ele estava para ajudá-lo, mas a namorada do rapaz, provavelmente morrendo de vergonha, fugiu antes que Gary chegasse.

Ao menos o cara conseguiu um abraço de Gary… Hahaha

What Happened to Jenny from the Block?

Now I know why I don’t watch much TV anymore.

Seriously, Jennifer Lopez is singing about Louboutin shoes?  I thought we weren’t supposed to be fooled by the rocks that she’s got because she’s Jenny from the Block?  I’m sure she’s not getting any free shoes from it, right?

Whatever. Between seeing that and the story about Suri Cruise and her high heels, I’m done.  (Although I have to admit that I liked seeing the part where Jenny from the Block bit it…just a little.)

Forget Jenny….Lady Gaga is the one who is growing on me.  Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I can’t help it.  She had me at “Poker Face,” but now she has this “Bad Romance” song and video and I’m seriously afraid I’m going to cave and buy something.

I’m not sure why I’m so resistant.  Her style and songs are good.  The videos are cool, too.  I guess there’s just so much stuff competing for my money that some other CD usually gets purchased first.

So I haven’t listened to this song at all today, so let’s watch and listen and then I need to meditate.  Today was annoying and I bit off all my fingernails, so I need to relax.

Video Memoirs: Prague, Czech Republic

 Oh hello, didn’t see you there. Anyway, this is my first video:) Whooooo mee:) Prague, Czech Republic and a neighbouring city, Pardubice. I was there this past August with my dear friend, and photographer Christine Novak. Some of the photography is done by her, and some by your’s truly. It’s a bit blurry at first but the ending is perfect so if you have any tips of how to fix it, I WILL GLADLY ACCEPT THEM. Otherwise, not saying this video is very informative, but if you wanted to get to know me a little bit better, to understand the beautiful culture of the Czech Republic, and to get a small taste of what I would say is perhaps one of the craziest party cities in Europe… Then this video is for you:) Enjoy!

Photo Skills Book

In Photo Imaging III, we had to make a book using our Photoshop manipulated images and iPhoto.  We created our pages and inserted them in to the book format from iPhoto, then ordered the 8 x 6″ soft-sided books from Apple.  Here are the images I used in that book.  Mr. Jones returned them; but I have misplaced my book.  I intend to redo my book before portfolio; but please take a look at what I first created during the summer of 2009.  TTFN  SDG

Alex Under es uno de los productores más importantes de nuestro país y lo viene demostrando desde 2003 con infinidad de producciones que han sido publicadas en sellos tan prestigiosos como Plus 8.

Hace tiempo que es uno de los artistas fijos en la nómina de Trapez y ahora regresa con la segunda entrega de su serie “Muscle tracks“, que incluye tres cortes en su versión vinilo y uno más en la digital.

A destacar “Charger“, tema contundente para la pista con varios momentos álgidos para deleitar al personal alzando bien alto las manos y “Mustang“, excelente corte tech-house que me recuerda y mucho al “Groove la chord” del gran Aril Brikha.

Es la referencia 102 de Trapez.

The Making Of Nightmare (part 1 of 2)

It’s been a while since I have posted a video, so I thought I would give you a double-header.  This is the first of two videos that show how I made an image called Nightmare.  This video is part 1 which takes you behind the scenes when we did the shoot.  It was a lot of fun, there was a group of about 8 of us and I think everyone really enjoyed the location and the shoot.  When you are shooting with a good group it really makes photography fun.  We were also lucky enough to have a gorgeous and talented model (thank you Mandy) who modeled for us.

This shot is something different for me in a few different ways.

1. It combines off-camera flash with light painting.  I don’t normally do much off-camera flash, but I’m keen to start doing more after Oat and Nelson’s wonderful off-camera flash workshop.
2. It is a shot of a person… I normally have a bit of a mantra of not shooting anything that talks or shits.  Hence the fascination with seascapes, landscapes and urban shots.  In this case I do feature the beautiful Mandy.
3. This shot was totally pre-visualised for about 3 months, and I have set out to create it.  I planned everything about the shot from the pools of light to the type of clothes that Mandy had on.  I wanted to see if I had the technique to accurately re-create my vision…. and I have to say I was very happy with the results.

What is this shot about?

Nightmare is about a chick who has been out for a wild night of partying finding herself in the wee hours of the morning in one god-awful freaky place.  Her clothes are in disarray, her makup is smudged over face and I wanted to create a response in the viewer of “what the hell happened to her…. what is she doing in this freaky place”?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video…. I will try to post part II tomorrow which will show the post processing including some pretty cool techniques.

Final Fantasy VIII intro movie. CG at its PS1 best

The Final Fantasy 8 opening intro movie definitely has to be one of the best Computer Generated openings in videogame history.

Although it’s looking a bit dated by today’s high-definition standards, the intro movie for FFVIII is still one of the best in style, grandiose, story and engagement. It simply rocks. Even if you don’t know the characters, I think you can feel an emotional attachment on some level in this clip. And the scene where the sword strikes the ground, and then you see “Final Fantasy VIII” logo flash across the screen in such a cool manner will forever be ingrained in my brain. It also comes at such a crescendo that you can’t help but be impressed.

Back when this game came out in 1999, this intro movie BLEW YOUR MIND. It was quite simply the best CG you had ever seen in a videogame, and it got you extremely hyped up to play the game. Which sadly, couldn’t quite stack up graphically or pace-wise compared to the intro. As FFVIII is a pretty slow-going game in the initial 10-20 hours of play.

Booty Shakin...sick of it..did I mention I'm sick of it

Last week I asked my Facebook fam to give me suggestions for my blog. One of the suggestions came from a young lady who, like me, is sick and tired sick and damn tired of seeing booty shakin’ and booty wrangin’ (as my grandma calls it) on BET.

BET has gotten to the point where it is almost shameful. I used to think that maybe the head honchos over at BET didn’t realize that children were watching, but then I woke up and accepted the fact that the head honchos over at BET didn’t give a damn about corrupting the minds of the children that are watching. It is all about the Benjamins and obviously this day and age booty shakin’ brings in lots of Benjamins. The show 106 & Park on BET is geared towards teens, and I swear everytime I see a peek of it (by mistake) somebody is poppin, lockin or droppin. The show has very high ratings, and the children can learn all the hot, new twirk moves from the comfort of their own home. Just flip to 106 & Park and learn how twirk twirk that thang. smh…BET has to do better.

Music videos on BET in my opinion are borderline Soft Porn. The only thing missing is the actual act of sex, even though I am pretty sure that I caught a glimpse of a lil sex in the new Trey Songz video I Invented Sex.

I know many will argue that it is ultimately up to the parents to monitor what their children watch and hear, but let’s get real folks a lot of the music today is filled with pure, unadulterated corruption. There is enough vioence and sex in it to last these children a lifetime.

But let’s take a trip back in time. Do yall remember when Donnie Simpson hosted Video Soul on BET? Now THAT was a music video show.  (I had no idea Donnie was doing this now, just shows I’m not keeping up) I swear BET has soooo fallen off since then. Take a look at what we are now missing because BET has chosen to air music video  programs that for the most part have no sustenance and show black people in a not so positive light.

…speaking of En Vogue, whatever happened to female singing groups that had more than one singer that could lead a song? I’m just saying, it’s okay to be able to dance and take care of backgrounds, but what about a group with the total package? Whatever happened to that?

That trip down memory lane makes me even more disgruntled by what you can see on music video programs today, especially those aired on BET. In case you don’t watch, here is what you are missing, but your children are seeing on BET…care to take a look….

Beyonce Kitty Kat  (luv me some Beyonce, but she does too much gyrating and twirking for the kiddos watching)

Along with the booty shaking and floor humping BET also offers a huge variety of music based solely on stuntin, driving new whips and wearing shiny jewelry.  I won’t get into that much because I have discussed it before and it hurts my head to think that so many songs can be written, recorded and made into videos over the same crappy, blingy, stuntin hot mess. ugh

I am honestly thinking of adding BET to my list of things I am silently protesting…well not so silently protesting. But it does mean that I will not watch, contribute funds to, or co-sign on behalf of it once it lands on the silent protest list. R. Kelly has been there so long that he is collecting dust.

I feel that it is time for black music and the lovers of black music to take a stand and bring back the music that we grew to love. Music that touched the soul and Set You Adrift On Memory Bliss. (luv that song to this day) Enough of the exploiting of black women, enough of the cursing and turning every song into a contest of who has the most bling. Who cares?

High Definition 1080p Video Coming to YouTube Next Week

YouTube is introduce support for 1080p high-definition (HD) video from next week, allowing film shot in HD quality to be uploaded and viewed on the site.

The official YouTube blog explains that the new maximum – which almost doubles the number of lines on a video from the present maximum of 720p – is being introduced as consumer cameras have become better and better, with more HD quality.

Existing videos that have been uploaded in 1080p, which presently only appear in 720p quality, are being re-encoded for the higher-quality version, says Billy Biggs, a software engineer at the Google-owned video company.

An accompanying video shows the difference (included at a smaller size below) between the different qualities – though it is slow to load because 1080p video requires substantially more storage than lower-quality formats.

The introduction of more high-quality video will increase the friction between Google, and particularly YouTube, and various internet service providers in the US, where “net neutrality” has become a sore point. Some ISPs and telephone companies argue that companies which send large amounts of data – particularly video – over their networks should pay to ensure that it does not block others from sending their data. Google and other companies contend that it is the telephone companies’ and ISPs’ responsibility to maintain the standards of their networks to meet growing demand for high-volume data transmission.

Farolazo de Ivey

Para hacer el blog algo más dinámico y atractivo he decido introducir pequeños cambios. La idea es ampliar poco a poco las secciones del mismo. Esta nueva sección estará dedicada a manos de jugadores profesionales en la cual vea algún movimiento interesante. Para inaugurar la sección(la podréis encontrar en la categoria de VIDEOS) os dejo el siguiente video:

 

Aquí se demuestra una de las frases que leí en un manual de Carreño:

“El póquer NO es un juego de cartas jugado por personas, es un juego de personas jugado con cartas”

Con esta frase quiero decir que entiendo perfectamente el fold de Durrrr con su full de ases y treses. Es decir, tiene un full sí, pero poniendo a Ivey en un rango de manos las parejas entran perfectamente dentro de ese rango. Y con cualquier pareja, exceptuando los doses, está totalmente por debajo y sin opciones de mejorar la mano.

Realmente tengo que aprender inglés. Los comentarios del final no tienen desperdicio pero no capto toda la conversación bien, me hago una idea pero no pillo los detalles ni los matices. Así que si alguien quiere poner en los comentarios que dicen exáctamente me hacéis un favor!!!!

Yes, I acknowledge that it’s probably a problem that, brought down emotionally by an indie quasi-quirky-romantic flick which delved into Feelings, I turned instantly to a genre of shoot-’em-up horror movie known for its brainless hordes. I’m working on it. How many times must I say this?

Escena Borrada: Brüno y La Toya Jackson.

Sacha Baron Cohen publicó en Youtube la escena borrada en la que entrevista en su casa de muebles mexicanos a La Toya Jackson. La escena, según Wikipedia, fue borrada a petición de la familia Jackson por obvias razones relacionadas a la muerte de Michael, en el corte final de la película la escena fue sustituida por una muy similar pero con Paula Abdul. Aún así, el numerito en el que Sacha Cohen finge dictar el número del celular de Michael Jackson a su asistente forma parte del material extra del DVD y Blu-Ray.

La Ruta de los Conquistadores 2009

Começa quarta-feira (11) a Rota dos Conquistadores 2009. A prova pioneira no mundo em maratonas de vários dias inspirou, entre outras, a Cape Epic, a Trasnrockies e a Transalp mas devido a administração fraudulenta, quase tem suas portas fechadas para o mundo. Um rombo de aproximadamente 235 milhões de colones ou R$ 700.000,00 tirou o sono dos donos do evento que estão ao mesmo tempo processando antigos funcionários e brigando com a Federação de Ciclismo da Costa Rica por uma outra pá de questões.

Em meio a toda essa turbulência mais de 200 atletas desembarcaram na Costa Rica para, em 4 dias, cruzar o país do Pacífico ao Atlântico numa das mais duras provas de MTB do mundo.

Até 2005, em 12 anos de história, apenas atletas costarriquenhos haviam vencido a prova. Naquele ano ninguém menos que Thomas Frischknecht levou o título mas ao final do primeiro dia disse “foi o dia de corrida mais duro da minha vida”. No ano seguinte Frischknecht foi “apenas” o décimo. Suas palavras antes da prova foram: Ao longo dos meses após La Ruta eu esqueci o quanto ela é dura… é a única explicação para eu estar aqui denovo. Tenho boas lembranças do ano passado mas tenho que confessar que estou um pouco assustado. Talvez por isso eu esteja aqui, porque é um desafio pessoal.

Em 2006 o colombiano Hector Paez Leon venceu e a prova ainda teve o Italiano Marzio Deho (5) e os americanos Tinker Juarez (6) e Adam Craig (7) comendo poeira dos locais Andrei Amador (2), Federico Ramirez (3) e Deiver Benavides (4).

2007 e 2008 foram dominados por Federico Ramirez. Ano passado tivemos a participação de Mario Roma que ficou em 15º e escreveu pra Bike Action, se não me engano.

É isso aí. Quem quiser sentir o gostinho da brincadeira pode se inscrever para um, dois ou três dias. Recebe kit mas não ganha medalha. As inscrições para 2010 já estão abertas.

Me agrada que la primera entrada de este blog sea de Wolfmother, mi banda reciente favorita, su nuevo álbum Cosmic Egg acaba de salir a la venta el pasado 26 de Octubre y esta vez les traego el primer video oficial, es de la cancion “New Moon Rising” una excelente cancion pero espero que haya mejores y la verdad el video esta muy bien solo que se centra mucho en Andrew y opaca a los nuevos miembros de la banda.

Lo mas destacado del video es el arte, rockea muy chido. Producido por Alan Moulder e interpretado por Wolfmother, aqui esta New Moon Rising.

Life update –

 

 

Film did not got in the short film competition, im thinking there may have been a chance that is was removed due to breach of the rules or that its was just not very good, I would have liked to have gone down south for a day out but think I got a lot from doing all this work in the film so may be next year I’ll get other people who really want to enter something.

 

Im now one day away from starting my 2 weeks holidays and for the first 4 days it will be nothing but Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 but for the remaining 10 days I will be in Nepal, I have a friends wedding to go to but thought I would take a little longer over there and have a little break. I am really looking forward to the change in life for a week or so, I think it will be a unforgettable time.

 

The World of apple, Macbook  pro to be more specific keeps getting better and better. The thing that had hit me in the past few days is the power of this thing, not just one thing but every component is very quick. I ran a screening for a friend last night from my mac and lets be honest running a video is not very demanding. To get the equipment set up I had to run a virtual windows 7, at the same time I my desktop running 1440×900 and my extended desktop running at 2048×1080, then I opened mail and it did not even slow down.

So I can see most people running macs through Tv’s or home projectors, I get to play with some more high end stuff, last night for this short film I had my mac plugged in to a £4000 scalier which was plugged in to a £35000 NEC2500 putting a 2048×1080 image on a screen 35 foot wide with 15 fLB on screen. We are the Avatar trailer of my mac as a test and it looked as good as what we get from our digital servers.

Im also now loving my new 3Gs, its just a nice quick update, I think the camera takes a much better image and even the video looks good.

 

As for word its been a few hard weeks, a nightmare of a film festival for 3 days did take a lot of attention but the rest of the building still needs running so I think they way im feeling now looks as if I ran at 150%. How ever much hard work it was it was still interesting and challenging and its nice to have a challenge every now and then. We ran Digi Beta, Beta Cam, Beta CamSR, 35mm, dvd, Blu-ray and some stuff in NTSC making things more complicated. The problems did not come from the different media but in the frame rates everything was set at, as the player was a loan and not through us we could not play 23.98 and 24 fps, so any tape in this frame rate would not play or go out of sync, its just hard when you care about what you put in screen.

So apart from feeling knackered from a very busy week, I have the flu and have only just started to feel better from the jabs for Nepal. I could do with starting to feel better before I do the midnight at Game for MW2,

תארו לעצמכם כינוס של בכירי ענף הביטוח. המרצה האורחת, פרופסור לגיאופיסיקה בעלת שם עולמי,  מדווחת על תגלית שמסעירה את הקהילה המדעית. שינויים במסה של ליבת כדור הארץ גורמים לעליה בכוח הכבידה (הגרביטציה). התהליך אטי, ויסתכם כנראה בהתגברות בת אחוזים ספורים בלבד, אבל ברור שהוא בעיצומו. היא מסבירה שהשינוי לא יהיה קצוב’ שהתגברות כוח הכבידה עלולה להתרחש בקפיצות  שלא יהיו ניתנות לחיזוי. מה שצפוי הוא הבלתי צפוי.

הנוכחים מקשיבים להרצאתה בדריכות. כאנשי ביטוח, יש להם עניין מיוחד בעתיד. בתום ההרצאה הם שואלים שאלות שמשקפות דאגה של ממש. האם חישובים של דורות של מהנדסים, שהתבססו על עוצמתו הידועה של כוח הכבידה, עומדים לאבד את ערכם? האם יש סכנה שגורדי שחקים, גשרים ומבנים אחרים שתוכננו על פי כח הכבידה המוכר כיום, יתמוטטו? האם מטוסי נוסעים עלולים לאבד את כוח העילוי ולהתרסק בלי התראה מוקדמת? האם ניתן יהיה לסמוך על מכשירי מדידה עדינים שמבוססים על גרביטציה?  כיצד ישפיע עומס יתר על השלד והשרירים על תהליכי צמיחה, הזדקנות, תחלואה ותוחלת החיים? מה יקרה בתעשייה? בחקלאות? בתובלה ובתחבורה?

סיפור הנבואה הגיאופיסית הזאת הוא כמובן בדיון, משל בלבד. המסה של כדור הארץ אינה משתנה, ולסוכני ביטוח אין מקום לדאגה בגללו. אני מביא אותו כאן גם כי ללובי הביטוח, שמאוד מודאג בגלל משבר האקלים, יש תפקיד כלכלי ופוליטי חשוב בהתמודדות עם הבעיה. וגם כהמחשה לחרדה העמוקה – והמוצדקת – שמתעוררת בנו נוכח האפשרות שמרכיב יסוד המעצב את עולמנו עומד להשתנות.  אפשר לראות את זה בוידיאו הנלווה אצל הנערה מסידני. היא מביטה על החופים שלארכם משגשגת אוסטרליה, מבינה שכל זה אל מובטח ומפנימה את זה שהדור הנוכחי הוא האחרון שעוד יכול למנוע את הקטסטרופה.

האקלים, כמו כוח הכבידה, הוא גורם מעצב רחב היקף אך לא קונקרטי. הוא תולדה של מערך מורכב של הקשרים שרק חלקם מובן לנו, והוא משפיע על סביבת החיים (הביוספירה) של כדור הארץ בצורה סיסטמית, כלומר על המערכת כולה, לאורכה ולרוחבה. כמו כוח הכבידה גם האקלים קיים בכל מקום, משפיע על כל תהליך. מכאן הדאגה העמוקה שמעוררת בנו האפשרות שהוא משתנה ושדפוסי חיינו עלולים להתמוטט. גם מי שאינו מדען מבין ששינוי מערכתי שקצבו איננו בר חיזוי, כלומר צפויים בו אירועים בלתי צפויים, הוא מסוכן.

לפני חמש עשרה שנה התנהל ויכוח בשאלה האם כדור הארץ מתחמם בכלל. ככל שהדיון בסוגיה התלהט התחוור שהשאלה הזו, שעוסקת לכאורה בפיסיקה אטמוספירית פשוטה, נושאת משמעויות פוליטיות כבדות משקל. ההכרעה בה, שבאה רק בסוף שנות התשעים, הגיעה בזכות ממצאים ממאות מחקרים מדיסציפלינות רבות שיצרו קונצנזוס מדעי ברור: יש התחממות והיא בהחלט גלובאלית. כאן התחיל דיון חדש, פוליטי לא פחות: האם התהליך הוא מעשה ידי אדם או תהליך טבעי? עבר עשור וגם הוויכוח הזה הוכרע באופן החלטי, לא מעט בזכות אלפיים וחמש מאות המדענים המעורבים בפאנל הבין-ממשלתי לשינוי האקלים (IPCC), שבסוף 2007 זכה במשותף עם אל גור בפרס נובל לשלום. בתום חמש עשרה שנה של עבודה שיטתית בלתי תלויה, התגבש בין כולם קונצנזוס ברור: שינוי האקלים הוא אנתרופוגני, כלומר מעשה ידי אדם. מאז המהפיכה התעשייתית נפלטו  לאטמוספירה מאות מיליארדי טונות של תחמוצות פחמן. זה שינה את ההרכב  הגזי של האטמוספירה והעלה מאוד את יכולתה לאצור חום. כמות החום שמשתחררת לחלל החיצון קטנה, והפלנטה מתחממת.

אחרי הוויכוחים על מהות התופעה וגורמיה נותרו שתי סוגיות גורליות פתוחות. אחת היא מה יהיה קצב ההתחממות בעשורים הקרובים והשנייה היא אם נותרו די זמן ואמצעים כדי לעצור את התהליך ולמזער את נזקיו. האם תצליח האנושות להתגייס למאמץ העליון שנדרש כדי להציל עצמה מאסון בקנה מידה שלא ידענו? האם אפשר לשנות את ההיסטוריה?

בכל ארבע הסוגיות הללו – עצם קיום שינוי האקלים, מקורותיו, קצבו והיכולת לרסן אותו מבעוד מועד – יש חשיבות עליונה למידע. אבל גם למנהיגות שתצליח לתת תקווה ולארגן פעולה משותפת ברמה הגלובלית. מבחן גורלי לכל אלה מגיע בקופנהאגן. עוד 30 יום זה מתחיל.

Imagine a conference of senior insurance people. The guest lecturer, a leading geophysicist, informs the audience about a new discovery that excites the scientific community. Changes in the mass of Earth’s core are causing a rise in the power of gravity. The process is slow, and will amount to a change of a few percent only, but it has started. Change may not be linear, and the increase of gravity could happen in leaps that cannot be forecast. The future, in other words, is not entirely predictable.

The people in the room listen attentively. As Insurance experts, they have a special interest in the future. At the end of the lecture they ask questions that clearly reflect concern. Will calculations of generations of construction engineers, premised as they were on the known intensity of gravity, about to become a dead letter? Is there a danger that skyscrapers, bridges and other structures might collapse? Will aircraft tend to use their lift at crucial moments and crash without notice? How will the extra stress on the skeleton and muscles impact human growth, aging, health and mortality? What will the impacts on industry, transportation, agriculture be?

This tale of geophysical doom is of course fiction, just a fable. Earth’s mass is nt changing, and insurance brokers need not worry on that account. I bring it here for two reasons. One is that the insurance world, members of which are deeply worried due to global warming, could play an important economic and political role in the way the world tackle the problem. Second, because it illustrates the deep, and understandable anxiety that we feel when confronted with the possibility that a fundamental element that shapes our world might change. You can see it in the response to global warming of the young woman from Sydney in the video above. She is looking at the coasts of Australia, where most Australians live and flourish, understands that they can no longer be taken for granted, and internalizes the fact that our generation is the last one that can stop the catastrophe.

Sem Bynum e Gasol? Sem problemas.

A ausência desses jogadores poderia ter sido fatal contra times como Boston ou Orlando, mas não era um jogo tão difícil e eles ganharam por 114 a 98, contra o pobre Memphis Grizzlies.

Kobe Bryant foi o cestinha com 41 pontos e Ron Artest contribuiu com 19 pontos, 6 rebotes e 7 assistências.

No intervalo da partida, os Grizzlies estavam lideram por 2 pontos, 51 a 49, graças ao péssimo aproveitamento de quadra do Lakers, 37,7%.

Então começou o terceiro quarto, que foi o começo da derrota do Memphis.

Kobe fez 15 pontos e Artest 11 nesse quarto, com o time do Lakers acertando 66,7% dos arremessos. O time de Los Angeles venceu por 38 a 24 o terceiro quarto.

Pela primeira vez em algum tempo o banco do Lakers não decepcionou. Josh Powell liderou os reservas com 13 pontos e o banco venceu o banco de Memphis por 35 a 23.

Com Bynum e Gasol fora, DJ Mbenga começou como pivô titular do Lakers. Ele terminou a partida com 5 pontos, 13 rebotes e 4 tocos. Para a felicidade de Phil Jackson, ele fez apenas 4 faltas em quase 30 minutos jogados.

“Nós tínhamos feito uma aposta de que ele teria 4 faltas nos primeiros 10 minutos de jogo”, disse Jackson.

Esse é o terceiro jogo essa semana que Kobe faz mais de 40 pontos. Ele acertou 19 de 30 arremessos tentados e agora é o cestinha da liga, com médias de 34.5 pontos por jogo, quase 3 pontos por jogo acima do segundo colocado, Carmelo Anthony.

A lesson to learn...

A few weeks ago Ms Gallus introduced us to PodCards, which turns out to be very useful if you have to prepare a session last minute. I decided to create a short session on US-cultural studies, in particular on The Simpsons:

The lesson starts with a youtube video as an opener to get the students’ attention towards the sessions topic:

After that, they are supposed to fill in the worksheet (which was also provided by PodCards) using either their knowledge or the internet for research.

I decide only to have them work on Activity 3 (listening to an online mp3 an fill in gaps in the text) if there was enough time left, as it seemed to me that the speaker’s voice and the information he gives on The Simpsons would not be able to hold the interest of the students for very long.

Entrevista que o Comissário de Voo aposentado, Paulo Resende, deu à Rádio Fluminense, na sexta-feira, 06 de novembro de 2009, sobre o drama dos ex-trabalhadores da Varig, Aposentados e Pensionistas do Aerus; e conclamando o pessoal para a próxima Manifestação: domingo, 08 de novembro, em Niterói, no Campo de São Bento.

Sharon Osbourne is really acting up on this clip of her during a guest spot on the Opie and Anthony Show.  I don’t know what Britain’s Got Talent contestant Susan Boyle did, but Sharon spends the majority of this clip calling her ugly and getting a good laugh about it. Oh, but don’t worry, Sharon apologizes for her behavior, by repeatedly saying that ‘God love her’. 

MTV News Interviews Chris Brown + His Response To Rihanna's 20/20 Interview

While Rihanna was telling her side of the story to Diane Sawyer, Chris Brownsat down with MTV News’ Sway Calloway on Friday (Nov. 6) and opened up about his ex-girlfriend, domestic violence, and how he is trying to move forward.

He also released a statement to MTV News in response to Rihanna’s “20/20” interview.

“While I respect Rihanna’s right to discuss the specific events of February 8, I maintain my position that all of the details should remain a private matter between us. I do appreciate her support and wish her the best. I am extremely sorry for what I did, and I accept accountability for my actions. At this point, I am taking the proper steps to learn about me and grow from my mistakes. I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well. Abuse of any kind is always wrong. The rest I leave it to God.”

Os maiores e melhores serviços da Google, em minha modesta opinião são os webservices comprados de terceiros: Orkut, Youtube e Blogspot. São eles que tem mais usuários, são os mais procurados.

Apesar da Google ter criado o buscador perfeito, um sistema de busca que revolucionou esse tipo de serviço na internet, depois disso sofreram alguns fracassos.

Google Acelerator – Deveria aumentar a velocidade de navegação na Web.

Google Answers – Cobrava para se obter respostas por este sistema. Provando que nem tudo o que fez sucesso na Yahoo, fez na google.

Google Videos – O sistema não era de todo ruim, mas o Youtube fazia tanto sucesso que a Google foi obrigada a comprar o concorrente.

Google x – Talvez até pelo nome, essa página de busca, redesenhada, lembrava a interface do DOC do Mac.

Uma das grandes vantagens da Google é o fato de os blogueiros do mundo inteiro, adeptos da democracia do buscador da Google, serem seus principais divulgadores. Basta que a Google faça um gesto de mudança ou criação, para que todo o mundo se volte para ela.

O Orkut por exemplo, estava totalmente esquecido, ofuscado pelos dois gigantes emergentes, o segundo sistema a ser considerado perfeito da Twitter e a nova queridinha da internet a Facebook. O crescimento vertiginoso da Twitter forçou a Facebook a se mexer, o Orkut, quem diria, saiu do anonimato e fez uma mudança geral.

A idéia de só aceitar usuários por convites, já usado no início, pode ser uma estratégia furada. Eu, particularmente, acredito que se era para criar uma mudança geral, deveriam ter mudado tudo, começando pelo nome.

Essa idéia de convite, passa a sensação de que vai começar tudo de novo. Além disso, alguns elementos que não combinam com WEB 2.0 são: Cadastro longo, comunidade fechada, site pago.

É preciso estar atento para as ferramentas do Facebook, para saber onde o Orkut parou e o Facebook começou.

Hoje, todo mundo tem algum tipo de página, blog ou microblog, ferramentas de RSS são fundamentais, eu já escrevi sobre isso, sites sem essas funcionalidades, não tem a menor chance no mercado.

Um blog dá independência ao internauta, nele, somos donos de nosso próprio nariz. É, em alguns casos, melhor do que ter um site.

Um Bookmark, dentro de uma rede, é um luxo só; a Facebook se dá ao luxo de integrar várias ferramentas, fica meio complicado, difícil de navegar, mas a “incubadora” é perfeita, além de opcional.

Grizzly Bear's Wacky New Video

So Grizzly Bear’s newest album Veckatimist is all the rage in the indie music world (and has been since long before it was officially released).  I haven’t yet given it much of a chance outside listening to a few tracks because I never got into their previous album.  Nonetheless, I’m a sucker for claymation and this Allison Shulnick video for Grizzly Bears “Ready, Able” is most amusing as a trippy-claymation-fest and so I felt like sharing:

Filipino Inmates Dance to BIGBANG

these are the same inmates that did the “thriller” dance that became a viral hit last year on youtube.
i came across this randomly when they recently put out a new “queen medley.” looking through their yt channel i saw them do a few kpop covers, including Big Bang’s LIES, Wonder Girls’ TELL ME & NOBODY, & Super Junior’s SORRY SORRY. it’s also noted in their info section that they’ll be doing (or did do) a cover of 2NE1’s FIRE as well but it hasn’t been uploaded yet…

it’s great to see something we always look in a negative connotation to be turned into something positive. i believe this rehab center, the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) and byron garcia is going above & beyond their duties & helping these inmates in a positive way, introducing to them a fun & active way to exercise & divert their energy & minds to dance & music.

it’s hard enough to get a small crew to dance in unison, but 1,500 inmates? possibly where none of them have any dancing experience? it is a great feat, & i commend them for creating great dance pieces to rock classics, as well as our fave kpop songs :]

Nela, o avarento Ebenezer Scrooge é visitado na noite de Natal pelos fantasmas dos natais passados, presente e futuros e é levado por uma viagem através dos tempos onde tem que encarar a própria mesquinhez. O conto é definitivo, claro, mas vamos ver como se sai nessa nova versão, dirigida por Robert Zemeckis – e, portanto, toda feita com a técnica da captura de movimento. Como sabemos, é uma verdadeira obsessão do diretor – que, em termos de bons filmes, até agora rendeu muito pouco. Jim Carrey faz Scrooge e mais um punhado de personagens.

Panicat leva bronca do Pânico por falar demais

Juliana Salimeni, que vai posar na Playboy em janeiro, arrumou confusão nos bastidores da Rede TV!.

Ela nega, claro, mas saiu espalhando que foi obrigada a dividir o cachê que ganhará da revista com um produtor do Pânico. Apesar de ela dizer que não, pois levou bronca, isso aconteceu mesmo, tadinha.

O cachê inicial combinado com a moça foi de R$ 60 mil. A parte de Juliana seria de R$ 30 mil.

Em alta, o Pânico tem dado trabalho para a concorrência. Perdeu na média, domingo, mas chegou a dar picos de 17 pontos no Ibope contra 13 do Fantástico.

Gugu e Silvio Santos também sentiram na pele os picos de audiência do programa da Rede TV!, que disparou no Ibope ao colocar Zina falando que é viciado em cocaína.

Public Rally against Salwa Judum & Displacement in Dantewada

On 14th November 2006, a huge rally was taken out in Dantewada to protest against Salwa Judum and illegal land acquisition by private firms like Tata and Essar.Adivasis from as far as Konta (200km from Dantewada) walked for days to participate in it. Originally the district administration denied permission to the CPI , under whose auspices the rally was conducted. They had to relent when Chhattisgarh high court asked them to allow it. This is a video of that rally. You can hear the slogans, ‘Salwa Judum band Karo”, “Mahendra Karma chor hai” and “Essar hai-hai”.

The Dutchess and The Duke are one of those bands that I’ve come across and wondered how I haven’t found them earlier. The duo from Seattle, consisting of Jesse Lortz and Kimberley Morrison, released the amazing debut She’s The Dutchess, He’s The Duke last year, and have recently released the follow-up Sunset/ Sunrise on the wonderful little label Hardly Art (home to Le Loup and Golden Triangle to name some favorites).

 

I’m still digesting Sunset/ Sunrise, which involves slightly more ambitious arrangements and optimism, but She’s The Dutchess, He’s The Duke has wormed its way into my heart, with little resistance. Most reviews compare them to early Rolling Stones, but the dark tone of the lyrics and super spare set up of acoustic guitars and minimal hand percussion which provide foil for the pop melodies makes me think southern gothic- or western, if you will. It’s all in the accents.

 

Lortz likes to pull apart the darker inclinations, his darker inclinations- it’s no secret that much of the lyrical content is autobiographical. So you hear about how we’re lifted and ruined by love, people gone from our lives and the ones we want to run from, the keepers, the take-it-or-leavers. Though grim, it is never overbearingly so- the upbeat guitar, brevity of the songs and album length always leaves me slightly stunned at conclusion, like there are gaps to fill in.

It is simple, one shot of the band with some acted footage being projected on to them as they sing along- it is without a doubt one of the most literal interpretations of song lyrics I have ever seen. Happy 8th birthday Rachel!

Today my firstborn turns 8 years old. Before I know it she will be in the double digits, something she will be in for the rest of her life.  An awesome thought to ponder. Where has the time flown to that I am now the mother of a “little miss independent” 8-year-old? By that I mean that she no longer needs me to tie her shoe laces for her, to bathe her, help her to get dressed, wipe her bottom, brush her teeth, make her bed or strap her in a car seat. She is too big for me to carry ~ although never too big for me to cuddle. While these years have indeed flown by on the one hand, on the other there is the freedom for me not to have to do these things for her anymore. It tugs at my heart-strings in such a powerful way though to realize that she no longer needs me for these little things. But there will always be other things to do in the unchartered voyage of discovery in her life ahead and as she grows into her future.

Lately, I have seen our conversations transform from those of speaking with a small child to the young woman who is developing in her. She is now old enough to genuinely help me with chores around the house.  Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without her when it comes to helping out with 7-month-old Eli. If I am in the shower or busy making dinner and Eli is fussing, Rachel is there to hold him and play with him.  My heart is filled with gratitude for the beautiful young person she is and for the comfort she brings me with the help she gives. I always have to keep in mind not to burden her too much with expectations on the first-born.

My mind takes me back to that time, not so long ago it seems, when I first found out I was pregnant, and not long after a trip to India.   I was shocked when I read the “positive” result of the pregnancy test I had taken at home. I took 4 more tests to make sure. They all said the same thing.  My world stood still as I tried to imagine how much my life would soon be changing.  Troy, upon finding out the news, was completely thrilled and very ready to be a father.  I, on the other hand, was anxious and full of apprehension. I had never imagined myself as a parent.  I had never changed a diaper or really watched any children outside of working in the church nursery a few times and that wasn’t exactly “my cup of tea”.  I didn’t think of myself as a “kid’s person” and I did not want to have babies for a while yet or stay home.  I had “plans”.

My! How times have changed! Now, I love children and I absolutely love staying home and being with my babies! I wouldn’t change the life I have now for anything else.

My pregnancy progressed without any complications. Rachel was given the due date of November 6th ~ my mom’s birthday. My parents, who lived 1,200 miles away in Kentucky, left their home a couple of days before Rachel was due to arrive in order to be with us and to welcome our child in to the world.  They were driving and just over halfway into the trip when my labor started. I called my parents and asked them to hurry! They prayed and asked The Lord to delay the birth until they could arrive. The Lord heard and the contractions stopped.

When my parents finally arrived in Boulder at 6:20 pm on the evening of November 4th, I waddled out to greet them. After hugging me my mom leaned over and kissed my belly and said “Okay baby, you can come now. We’re here.”  10 minutes later my contractions started up again and in earnest. A  couple of hours later we left for the hospital.  God was so good in granting me the desire of my heart in having my parents there to share this life-changing time and so the timing of their arrival and my labor were perfect.

We all, together, and with such joy welcomed Rachel Aliyah in to the world as the sun arose over the mountains early the next morning.  She was a beautiful and healthy baby weighing 8 lbs. 13 oz and she immediately let us know what a wonderful, healthy pair of lungs she had been blessed with.

We had decided to wait until the birth to find out the sex of our baby.  Throughout my pregnancy my mother felt very strongly that we were having a girl.  A few years before Rachel’s entrance in to this world, my mom and I had been on a trip to Israel together.  Early one morning as she was standing on a hill of olive trees near a kibbutz in Jerusalem overlooking the tomb of the Biblical Rachel in Bethlehem, watching the sun rise and praying, she felt strongly impressed from The Lord that her first grandchild would be a girl named Rachel.  She shared that with me at the time but since I was not married nor did I ever think of being a mother, I didn’t dwell on the thought.  It was only after we heard “It’s a girl!” and Troy & I had officially named her Rachel, that my mom reminded me of that morning in Jerusalem.

I am so deeply thankful and I feel wonderfully blessed that we have this beautiful child as our daughter.

Quick Hit: Straight Jacket

I discovered this poem today and it really resonates with me. I came to Boston, in part, to find a sense of community; but instead I’ve spent most of my time here in the “closet” of my dorm room. I especially love the lines, “How would I teach a nation to love what it doesn’t understand/ If I wasn’t strong enough to love myself in front of them.” The idea that you have to make peace with yourself before you can seek it with others is something I struggle with. I’ve transcribed it after the break.

A Record assinou contrato com TVA e Telefônica para o pay-per-view do reality show rural.

Na TVA, o sinal virá pelo canal 115. Na Telefônica, pelo 767. Os dois estão posicionados antes do PPV de futebol.

Os telespectadores poderão acompanhar tudo o que acontece no programa durante 24 horas.

Os preços para assinatura são: R$ 99,90 no primeiro mês, R$ 75,00 no segundo mês e, no terceiro, R$ 70.

‘Braid’ chega ao console da Sony no dia 12 de novembro.
Jogo de plataforma faz o jogador voltar no tempo para resolver enigmas.

 

 

Quando foi lançado em 2008, o game independente “Braid” fez sucesso entre os jogadores por conta de sua mecânica de jogo que misturava plataformas, quebra-cabeças e viagem no tempo. Mais de um ano após o lançamento para a rede Xbox Live, da Microsoft, o título criado pelo desenvolvedor Jonathan Blow chegará à loja virtual do console de Sony.

Em “Braid”, que também está disponível para PC e Mac, o jogador deve atravessar as fases eliminando os inimigos existentes ao pular em cima deles. O diferencial é que é possível voltar no tempo para refazer ações e consertar os erros. Há outras habilidades que envolvem o uso do tempo para resolver mistérios e encontrar certas peças escondidas para completar o game.

No PlayStation 3, o jogo custará US$ 15 e estará disponível no dia 12 de novembro na loja virtual do console, a PlayStation Store. “Braid” foi eleito o melhor jogo independente de 2006 no Independent Game Festival (IGF), anos antes do seu lançamento oficial. Em 2008, ele recebeu o título de melhor jogo casual pelo Academy of Interactive Arts & Science Awards, uma das premiações mais importantes da indústria dos videogames.

The Choir of Young Believers, a julgar pela amostra, é concepção do dinamarquês Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, que com 26 anos traz decorados os acordes que habitualmente pontuam nos hinos aos sonhos desfeitos do norte da Europa; mas transforma-os em momento de frágil contemplação. Ou então não é nada disto e basta-nos uma explicação como “eis o jovem que passou demasiado tempo no quarto a ouvir os lamentos de Thom Yorke e agora que fazer das audições exaustivas coisa sua, juntando-lhe sensibilidades entretanto aprendidas por outras paragens”. Pelo menos a julgar por esta amostra, Why Must It Always Be This Away, entre palcos do festival novaiorquino CMJ. O disco vai rodando:

Bayonetta's weapons and combos

What can a sultry, spectacle wearing witch covered in hair do to demonic angels? Rather a lot judging from this video. Bayonetta is getting a lot of hype for various reasons and Sega is doing a great job at furthering the excitement with these trailers. A well spoken English lass talks us through this one showing Bayonetta’s weapon’s and combinations including her infamous stiletto guns. It continues to look like a lot of fun, bettering what we’ve seen and played in the Japanese demo. The full game is out in January and adds to the ever growing number of must play titles.

"Video Phone" estreiará dia 05 de Novembro!

A Sony Music, gravadora de Beyoncé, antecipou a estreia mundial de “Video Phone”, novo e esperado clipe da artista que conta com a participação de Lady GaGa.

Previsto para ser lançado no dia 10 de novembro, o clipe já vai ser divulgado na próxima quinta-feira, 5. O lançamento exclusivo vai ser pela MTV. Todos os canais online das MTV do mundo vão disponibilizar o vídeo a partir das 23h (horário de Brasília).

No Brasil, o vídeo estreia online no MTV Inside e será exibido na TV após o Europe Music Awards 2009.

After Tom Hanks’ interview, Letterman showed Weezer’s new album, Raditude. The band’s unfamiliar, but I enjoyed the song they performed. Here’s the song:

A estas alturas de mi vida me resulta, como poco, curioso, sentir ese hormigueo infantil de la proximidad de algo que puede cambiar tu vida.

Recuerdo esa sensación casi olvidada en mí, aunque la he visto después en diferentes ocasiones reflejada en mis hijas: El primer dia de colegio, de  competición gimnástica, la cercanía de unas vacaciones en colonias….esos dias puedes llegar ( y de hecho ocurre ) a tener tal ansiedad que produce desajustes en tu organismo. ¿Qué será lo que se “cuece” dentro de uno para no poder controlarlo?.

Sin duda, uno de los componentes más activos de estas situaciones es el miedo. El miedo a lo nuevo, a lo desconocido, al fracaso….y al éxito también, porque toda victória lleva consigo una derrota, tuya o de otros.

Así que no hay nada mejor que conocer bien a quien o a qué te enfrentas para luchar en buenas condiciones, <> dijo J.F.Kennedy. after the interview that notoriously pissed Michael Jackson off, most everyone knows by now that Martin Bashir of ABC’s Nightline gets in that ass. He takes absolutely no prisoners, from media-sullied pop stars to sensitive Scientologists. So when Bashir asked Scientology representative Tommy Davis to confirm whether or not members of the religion really do believe that life began when an alien emperor dropped a bunch of people in volcanoes 75 million years ago, he didn’t really have to get as pissy and defensive as he did. So pissy, in fact, that he unhooked his microphone, dropped it on the ground, and stormed out… instead of simply clarifying rumors or just saying “no.”

being one who simply doesn’t mess with what i don’t know, i may not be a proponent of Scientology, but i also don’t see the point in pointing fingers and calling its followers nuts for for believing in something i can’t quite comprehend. However, wouldn’t Bashir’s query somewhat equate to one simply asking a Christian if he/she believed that humans started with Adam and Eve? What’s the big deal with that? Maybe representatives of other religions just have better things to do than throw hissy fits on national television.

So nut up, Tommy Davis – ABC was just trying to make your people seem a little less nuttier than Tom Cruise made you all out to be. Now you just look like a brat who’s just let Martin Bashir successfully make you and your people look like the crazies so many people take you for.
